Common Questions and Answers
What
is Art On Sight? |
 |
| |
Art On Sight is a company devoted to
art exposure.
Our primary focus is displaying local, original artworks
in community venues which advances the careers of the
artists, while providing increased exposure and availability
of the arts to the general public. |
What
exactly does Art On Sight do? |
 |
| |
Art On Sight offers many different art-related
services… with the 3 following areas being our
core focus.
Exhibit. We saturate familiar
spaces with original artwork to raise the public’s
awareness of the thriving, local art scene and to support the local arts community.
Educate. We offer private, small group, and corporate
art lessons.
Entertain. Art On Sight also periodically
hosts or assists in the coordination of art events
such as art
auctions, benefit galas, or art festivals. |
What
are the benefits of Art On Sight’s
services? |
 |
| |
Exposing the public to art exhibitions
on a common basis generates an appreciation of art
and an awareness of the local, thriving art scene.
This, in turn, supports the local art community.
Businesses
benefit from our services both directly and indirectly,
because they are increasingly
involved in their community
and
become supporters of the local art scene. |
Where
is Art On Sight located? |
 |
| |
Art On Sight is based in Austin, Texas. |
I
have a question about Art On Sight or an Art On Sight
service, who can I contact? |
 |
| |
Please visit our Contact page
for various forms of contact. We look forward to speaking
with you. |
How
does Art On Sight select artworks for their inventory? |
 |
| |
Artworks for our inventory and venues
are selected based on quality, design, size and content.
We strive to maintain an inventory of various styles
which accurately represents what the local art scene
has to offer. Because we display in an array of public
venues, we must occasionally screen the content, subject
or object matter in artworks.
Art On Sight will work with only original artworks.
Giclées, embellished giclées, prints,
or other manufactured reproductions are never considered
for representation. |
How
can an artist have their artworks represented by Art
On Sight? |
 |
| |
We are currently accepting new artworks
for the following locations:
Austin, Texas
Artists interested in being considered
for representation by Art on Sight should contact
us for more information
on the submittal process. We usually request
photographs of 3-5 current works. |
Are the artworks for sale? |
 |
| |
Yes. Most artworks on display in our
venues are available for purchase, unless otherwise noted.
Prices are typically listed
on the placard accompanying the piece in the venue and
also in our online inventory system. Please contact
us if you are interested in a piece. |
How can I find out in which venues artworks
are located? |
 |
| |
Again, our focus is creating exposure for
emerging, local artists. But not through conventional
methods that have been used in the past, like small galleries
and cafes. We try to choose unconventional locations
that typically support high traffic, and that an artist
would not be able to get into. Some example venues that
we use are high-end restaurants (but not cafes or similar),
office building lobbies, jewelry stores, public government
lobbies such as city halls, downtown condo complexes,
a winery, etc. We have some other intriguing concepts
that are coming to fruition over the next few months.
Also, we are currently upgrading our website and integrating a database that
will showcase all of our inventory of artists, their works, and the venues where
they are hosted. This database showcasing our inventory of artists will launch
by
the
end of March. |
Who
sets the prices for artworks represented by Art On
Sight? |
 |
| |
The artist sets the retail sale price for
each of their artworks in the Art On Sight inventory. |
Can
an artist choose which venues their artworks are displayed? |
 |
| |
Yes and no. Art On Sight ultimately chooses
venue locations for each artwork, based on many different
criteria. However, an artist may note certain venues
or types of venues where they are NOT comfortable
displaying their art, and
Art On Sight will respect those requests.
Also, Art On Sight attempts to maintain
the artist’s
collection in a single location when possible, but
it may be spread
across multiple locations if there is not enough space
or we have a large inventory of their works.
An artist is always notified of where their artwork
is displayed. And we are always interested in new venue
locations that an artist may recommend. If we accept
that venue, the recommending artist usually has the
opportunity to be part of the first installment in
that venue. |
Is
artwork represented by Art On Sight Insured? |
 |
| |
There has been extreme difficulty
in finding insurance underwriters
to insure the artworks while in
a venue, since they do not belong to us, and are not
in our
direct possession. We have been able to find policies
to cover the artwork while it is in our possession,
for instance during
storage
or transit. While on display, a venue's insurance
policy would typically cover theft or loss due to fire,
etc... but we recommend that artists acquire
a personal insurance
policy to
protect
their artwork if they so desire.
